I’ve been carrying this very heavy revelation around with me for about a week and I can’t handle it anymore.
Fact: I drive almost 3 hours a day to and from work. That’s no secret. I like to consider it dedication. A secondary fact: I listen to a lot of podcasts in that time. I have 3 favorites…and (nerd alert) two of them are related to Sherlock Holmes.
I Hear of Sherlock Everywhere is a fabulous podcast run by Burt Wolder and Scott Monty that claims to be the first podcast for Sherlock Holmes devotees. I don’t doubt that. And the nice thing about it is that it’s a stark contract to the Baker Street Babes, an all girl run podcast. The former is more scholarly. The latter more…giddy fan girl. I enjoy them both equally.
I was on Twitter last week (obvs) and under suggestions…it was suggesting to me “Scott Monty.” That’s cool. I mean, I follow A LOT of Sherlockians (or Holmesians…depending on who you are). The curious bit that had me stroking my chin was the little blue verified check mark next to Scott Monty’s name.
The group of people devoted to Holmes is so small…and the group who listens to a podcast on him, I’m sure, is even smaller. And yet…one of the podcasters is legit enough to have a blue check mark? Psh. What is this world coming to?
So I click on him. WHAT THE HECK?!
Scott Monty is the GLOBAL HEAD OF SOCIAL MEDIA FOR FORD MOTOR COMPANY.
He’s so legit!
How is this?! This guy who I only know from an off the path, random podcast turns out to be the global head of social media at Ford? That’s got to be huge.
That’s like……..finding out your best friend is a King. And everyone knew it except you.
In fact, Scott Monty was named one of the top 10 most influential people in social media in 2012.
I love that he’s in marketing and SM…the same areas as me! I’m not sure why I thought all Sherlockians were outright nerds. We have lives and jobs and families. Proof that being passionate about something doesn’t make you any less awesome.
The takeaway, internet? Even YOU could be tied to someone super awesome in the most unusual way.
